Title: When basic research meets medicine and nanomedicine

Date/Time: March 13, 2019  /  13:40-14:30

Place: FENS G032

Abstract: Since the establishment of our lab in Sabanci University, our main goal was and still is to better understand basic molecular and cellular biology of man, and translate this novel knowledge into innovative diagnosis and disease treatment methods. To achieve this goal, we are using various state-of-the-art tools, including Crispr/Cas9 gene editing, advanced microscopy, mass spectrometry, computerized molecule modeling, cellular and rodent models of diseases, human tissue samples and even live primary cells, as well as advanced techniques of nanotechnology and biomedicine. For example, these intensive research efforts led to the identification of novel protein and RNA regulators and signaling pathways of autophagy, to the discovery of new markers and drug targets of incurable cancer types and rare diseases, to the development of biochips and innovative tumor-targeted nanoparticle drugs, and to the construction of an original tumor ablation device. The talk will include these and other examples of "Made in Turkey" results that were obtained by our research team in Sabanci University FENS and SUNUM Laboratories.
