Abstract: Dry sliding and contact fatigue behavior of different powder metallurgy (PM) steels are investigated. In the first part, the study is focusing on the dry sliding behavior of PM steels at different pressures and different speeds. In the second part, contact fatigue behavior is studied and a design guideline is proposed for all investigated materials by considering the wear thickness as the basis of the calculations. Wear thicknesses of all materials are calculated from the wear rate after one million of cycles and compared to the dimensional tolerance of the part diameter defined by ISO Standards, as a failure criterion. After defining the contact fatigue limits of investigated materials, shot peening is proposed to improve contact fatigue behaviors of the studied samples. Steel+ceramic and ceramic shot peening are considered as two different methods and their effects are compared.

BIO: İbrahim Metinöz got his Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from Ege University, Izmir-Turkey in 2008. After graduation he joined Polymer Engineering Master’s Degree joint program of University of La Sapienza Roma-Italy and Lyondell Basell. He completed his master in 2010 and in 2011 started his PhD in Materials Engineering in Trento University-Italy. In 2014, he completed his PhD and started post doctoral study with Marie Curie scholarship. During PhD and post doctoral study he wrote several scientific articles and attend conferences as speaker. He worked in R&D department of a brake system manufacturer in Italy for couple of years and now works for Pulver Kimya’s in thermoplastic coatings department as a Product Development Manager.
