Abstract:Professor Larry Lessard, from McGill University in Montreal, Canada, works in the research area of recycling of composite materials.  He will present work on recent projects on the topic of recycling and sustainability.  Furthermore, Professor Lessard is undergoing a round-the-world bike trip to help promote these ideas and to film a documentary film on the subject.  20,000 km of biking in 400 days, which began in Paris on July 1, 2022.

Bio: Prof. Larry Lessard is Professor of Mechanical Engineering at McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. He obtained his engineering degree from McGill University and his M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering from Stanford University (California) in the USA. He is a member of the Structures and Composite Materials Group at McGill, and a member of CREPEC. He is highly involved in applied research with main interests in the Design, Analysis, Fabrication and Testing of Composite Structures "From Start to Finish". Emphasis now is on sustainability and recycling of composites. He has received several awards for his research and teaching, including a Faculty of Engineering Outstanding Teaching Award in 2006 and again in 2018.
